Digital Cameras are dead!

Cameraphones are out there. Their number is growing rapidly and already Nokia has become the largest vendor of cameras in the world. In just a couple of years, mobile phones with integrated cameras have managed to eliminate the need for all consumer digital cameras except professional digital SLR’s.

15 out of every 16 digital cameras sold in 2005 would be embedded in phones. That’s 30 million digital cameras compared to 500 million cameraphones. This year’s figure is a staggering 314% rise compared to last year. The buying spree is expected to continue at least through 2009, when cameraphone sales are expected to rise to 900 million units, or 90% of the 1 billion mobile phones projected to be sold in 2009.

Mobility is one of the main reasons for the success of camera phones. You’ll never miss a chance to take a photo since your phone is always with you. Add to that connectivity, backup and sharing capabilities and there you have it – the perfect capturing device.

Quality which was the main issue until recently is improving rapidly with players like Carl Zeiss lenses joining the game. Auto focus, flash and >3MP sensors are key issues for choosing your cameraphone. That’s why we started CamPhoneReviews.com. With voice quickly becoming a commodity, people select their phones according to the camera attributes and that’s exactly where we can assist.
